Welcome To Ashborough's Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast

Ashboroughs Farmhouse is approximately 400 yards from Old Burcot Lane and is very tranquil being set in the middle of a 100 acre arable farm.  Surrounding the house are fields of Wheat, Barley or Oil Seed Rape depending on the crop rotation.  The access is up Old Burcot Lane from the A38 or the B4096 and the lane is quite narrow with passing places.

Ashborough’s Farmhouse is of ancient origin and is mentioned in the doomsday book, although at that time it was called Asseberga and was one of the tithes of the manor of Bromsgrove.   You can look it up online at discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk.  Key word – Asseberga.

Immediately in front of the house are 3 lakes which were originally fish pools maintained by the monks at Stoke Abbey just south of Bromsgrove.  In the 1940s the lakes were dammed and deepened to serve as irrigation reservoirs for the farm.  At this time it was decided to convert the farm from a mixed livestock, arable and fruit farm to a fruit farm only.  From the 1950’s to the 1980’s the farm grew Apples, Pears, Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackcurrants and Gooseberries.  In the late 1980’s the farm was converted to arable.  The farm still continues as a working arable farm and machinery may be seen on occasions cultivating and treating the crops.  In August or September a huge combine can be seen on the farm cutting the crops.

Ashborough’s Farmhouse as it is was built on the present site in 1950 and replaced an earlier house immediately adjacent.  The house was modernised and extended in 1982 and was further modernised and extended in 2012.  It now provides en-suite accommodation to the highest standard and is set in tranquil surroundings.  The nearest house to Ashborough’s Farmhouse is half a mile away and so it is truly individual.

There is an indoor swimming pool attached to the house which guests are welcome to use (seasonal Summer use).  We would ask you to note that the swimming pool is unsupervised and you must take responsibility for your own safety whilst using the pool.

The swimming pool has its own changing room and shower together with swimming pool towels so please do not take the house towels into the pool.  It is a good size being 11M (35ft) x 5M (16ft).

Outside the house you will find free parking and gardens which you are welcome to walk round.

There are 3 lakes in front of the house and you may fish in them if you wish.  The fish in the pool are roach and carp and should be returned to the pool at the end of your session.

You are also welcome to walk around the farm although when there are crops in the fields, we would ask you to stick to the tarmac drive and if you walk to the top of the farm where the radio masts are, you can enjoy a very good view of the area.  Additionally, there are several public footpaths close to the house which give a nice evening walk of 2-3 miles.  We can advise you on these.
We are a Dog Friendly (Kennel Provided Free of Charge – No Dogs in the House).

There is a purpose built brick kennel at the house to accommodate dogs.  If owners are willing to leave their dog in the Kennel provided please notify us of this in your reservation, just in case we have other guests who are also bringing their dog on that particular night.  We do ask that your dog does not create too much noise as to unsettle our other guests at the time of your stay.
